Winter Camp

TWO WEEKS OF OUTDOOR FUN!

Registration Opens in Early October

This year, winter camp is open to campers ages 6 – 8 and open in limited capacity to campers ages 3 – 5, in order to accommodate for onsite construction.

During winter camp we play, build, sing, work, and get to know life on a Jewish urban farm. Through farm chores and responsibilities, self-directed play in our engaging spaces, and project-based nature and farm activities, we learn about the natural world and explore community, teamwork, and the interconnectedness of all things.

Who says farm camp is only for summer? 

Enjoy all seasons of the farm during our festive winter camp! This winter, we will honor seasonal transitions and Jewish time, celebrating Hanukkah and the ushering in of winter. We will learn about how we can take care of the farm during this seasonal time of rest, play with light and darkness, make and eat celebratory foods, and discover daily miracles on the farm!

What Happens At Winter Camp?​

Campers enjoy their day in chavurot (small groups) of similarly-aged campers, led by two counselors. Each day includes story time, a Shomrei Adamah (guardians of the earth) block in which campers contribute to the farm’s wellbeing, a hands-on activity which ranges from cooking to puppet making to art, and self-guided play time in the children’s garden and with our farm animals.

Urban Adamah is committed to ensuring your camper the magic of camp. Urban Adamah has a pool of scholarship money generously provided by the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation. All financial aid applications are due by November 11 and are anonymously distributed on a needs-basis.

* If you wish to apply for Financial Aid, follow the prompts in the registration process and ensure to click the box that says I want to apply for Financial Aid.

All cancellations must be made through the registration portal. Cancellation fees apply to all sessions, including sessions with a waitlist.

 

  • Cancellations on or Before October 24
    Refund minus $150 administrative fee, and credit card processing fee.

  • Cancellations on or Before November 14
    Refund minus $300, and credit card processing fee.

  • Cancellations on or Before December 12
    No refund given, unless we are able to fill your spot with someone from the waitlist, in which case you will receive the refund policy of the previous tier.

  • Cancellations Beginning December 13 
    No refunds given

 

Special Cancellation Circumstances

 

  • If, for medical reasons, including a positive COVID-19 test, you must cancel your registration or your child is sent home from, we will not be able to provide a refund. 
  • In the event that your child cannot be allowed to participate in the full camp session due to behavioral issues, we will not be able to provide a refund.
  • If you have received financial aid and cancel at least two weeks prior to the start of camp, we will offer a full refund minus a $150 administrative fee.
  • If camp is canceled due to a decision made by Urban Adamah, independent of cancellations directed / required by public health agencies or an environmental emergency, we will give full refunds (or prorated refunds if camp has already begun) minus a $150 deposit and credit card processing fees.
  • If we cannot run camp as a result of a public health or environmental emergency, we cannot guarantee any refunds.

WE ARE COVID-19 READY

All campers and staff are required to wear masks, and will hand-sanitize and wash hands frequently! We ask kiddos to bring all their own snacks and lunch for health and safety reasons. Our cleaning practices will include regular bathroom cleanings, equipment sanitized and disinfected before use each day, individual places to store camper belongings, and plenty of hand sanitizer, hand washing, and self-applied sunscreen!

Camp activities will remain outdoors or in an open outdoor tent. On the occasion of extreme cold or rainy weather, camp groups may spend short periods of time indoors with open windows — each chauvrah will be separated into a different indoor area.

We will ask staff and program participants to complete a symptom questionnaire to identify any potential health concerns upon arrival each day. Additionally, we will take all staff and campers’ temperatures upon arrival to the farm. Staff and campers will be required to wear a mask at all times during the day, except for when eating or drinking or as contraindicated per CDC recommendations.

Please send your camper in a comfortable, breathable mask each day with an extra mask in their backpack.

Failed Health Check:
If any staff or program participant fails a daily health check by answering yes to any of the questions on the symptom checklist, or with a temperature reading of over 100ºF, they will be sent home for a minimum of 72 hours.

* If a temperature reads over 100 degrees we will ensure a correct reading, we by retaking the temperature one more time, after 5 minutes, for confirmation.

If symptoms resolve within 72 hours, the staff member or participant will be admitted back to camp upon a successful health check and negative COVID-19 test. If a child or staff member develops symptoms while at camp, they will be sent home.

Positive COVID-19 Result:
If any staff member, child, or anyone within their social bubble, tests positive for COVID-19 or comes in contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19, they will not be able to return to camp for 2 weeks, and until providing a negative COVID-19 test result for them and infected person, per the CDC guidelines.

Additionally, the program pod this person was in will move from in-person to remote programming for 2 weeks, and until every returning member provides a negative COVID-19 test result. The exception to this rule is if a positive COVID-19 result was obtained prior to contact with anyone else in the pod.

We will be closely monitoring air quality each day camp is in session. We ask that you provide your child with an N-95, or other smoke filtering mask for each day of camp, in the event that smoke begins to impact air quality during camp time. In the event of poor air quality, we will restrict activities in the following ways:

  • Air Quality Is Moderate (AQI 51 – 100)
    No restrictions on activities. Counselors monitor kids with asthma or other respiratory problems, as gathered from Camper Forms.
  • Air Quality Is Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (AQI 101 – 150+)
    Given that our programming will take place exclusively outdoors due to COVID-19 precautions, we have no option to bring the campers indoors should the AQI reach this level. We will contact parents and ask for pickup within 2 hours. During these days of poor air quality, please have your phones on and stay close by to the farm, so that you are able to pick up your child if need be.
