At Camp Urban Adamah, we offer campers a taste of organic farm life through fun and dynamic hands-on programs at our urban farm. Our programs are designed to create a space for children to thrive and express their natural curiosities and passions, all within a vibrant, loving and inclusive Jewish community. This summer, Camp Urban Adamah is offering six weeks of programming for children entering first to fifth grade that feature hands-on projects and activities exploring themes that integrate nature-connection, farm-to-food-making, crafts, sustainability, and community-building.

 

Camp Urban Adamah’s After Camp Program helps make camp accessible to many families in our community.  The After-Camp Counselor and Coordinator are what makes this part of a child’s day at camp positive and fun. After-Camp group size can range from 10 to 24 campers, is multi-age, and is staffed at a 1:6 ratio.


RESPONSIBILITIES

After-Camp Counselor: The After-Camp Counselor helps to ensure that all aspects of the After-Camp program run smoothly, including all program activities, afternoon snack, and pick-up times. Along with the Program Coordinator, the After-Camp Counselor maintains farm cleanliness after other staff have finished clean-up, and puts away/cleans any materials used in the After-Camp program. Young children may also need help changing their clothes and using the bathroom (no diaper-changing).

 

Activity Leader: The After-Camp Counselor helps inspire a calm, afternoon atmosphere on the farm by helping children transition from a larger-group camp experience to a smaller, more intimate group setting. This person helps children engage in the activities offered for the afternoon, and may lead specific offerings including art projects, sports games, card games, puzzles, or other fun activities. They uphold behavioral expectations clearly and consistently, and may work one-on-one with children needing extra support.

 

Safety: The After-Camp Counselor ensures the safety of all children who are part of the After-Camp Counselor, including ensuring children stay on Urban Adamah premises until picked up by the appropriate person. They keep a birds-eye-view of the farm and is aware of where all children are at any given moment, as well as who might need extra support or assistance.  They are also available to administer basic first aid when necessary.

 

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have experience leading or supporting children’s programs and collaborating with other staff. Ideal candidates have a background in farm and garden-based education and/or Jewish experiential education, or have other relevant experience working with children. Generally, we want teammates who are kind, enthusiastic, good listeners, willing to try new things, generous, willing to be silly, flexible, creative, caring, and able to maintain a positive team attitude throughout a full work day. Jewish background/knowledge is not necessary, but is helpful.


DATES AND TIMES

The Camp Urban Adamah After-Camp Counselors are hired for a full summer season of camp.

  •  Main Camp Orientation & Site Setup (Mandatory) – July 3rd-6th  9-5pm
  • Main Camp:
    July 9th – 13th
    July 16th – 20st
    July 23th – July 27th
    August 6th – 10th
    August 13th – 17th
    August 20st – 24th

The After-Camp Program runs from 3pm ­– 5pm daily.  The After-Camp Counselor must be onsite and ready to work from 2:30-6:00pm every day. On Fridays, the After-Camp Counselor provides additional set-up support starting at 1pm for the all-camp closing circle.

 

OTHER

Supervision: The After-Camp Counselor is managed by the After-Camp Program Coordinator and supervised by the Camp Director.

Compensation: $1600-$1800 depending on experience. Paid biweekly. This is a temporary seasonal position that conforms to the legal requirements of such positions; as such it is not bound by overtime pay requirements and does not include any benefits.
