Volunteer on the Farm

Volunteer on the Farm!

Our farm in Northwest Berkeley relies on volunteers to help us grow the thousands of pounds of produce we harvest every year and donate through our Free Farm Stand and area food banks.

If you like working outdoors, meeting new people, contributing to the greater good, learning new skills and getting your hands dirty with satisfying farm work, you’ll love volunteering with us. Farm work might include seeding in the greenhouse, weeding, harvesting crops, animal care, helping with repairs and assisting around the farm with other small and big projects. No experience is necessary! Just bring your fun-loving attitude and we’ll train you on the rest. Remember to dress for the outdoors with appropriate clothing and closed-toes shoes.

All volunteer days and work parties are open to small groups and individuals ages 12 and up. Children ages 12-18 must be accompanied by an adult.

WEEKDAY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Tuesday Hours – 2:00 – 5:00 pm

Got time during the week? Come to the farm to help us almost every Tuesday! No experience needed; just come excited to work and we’ll guide you on the rest. Please bring a water bottle and closed-toed shoes.

MONTHLY VOLUNTEER WORK PARTIES

Once a month during the growing season, we hold volunteer parties for adults and families with kids on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. There will be an interactive farm tour from 1:00 – 2:00 pm and then we’ll work on the farm from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. These days are great opportunities to spend quality time exploring the wonders of the farm while helping grow food for those who can’t afford to buy it. We will end with time for snacks and schmoozing. Bring your own snacks and some to share.

Adults: Get ready to work! Everyone over 18 will be working on key farm tasks that help us grow fruits and vegetables – weeding, shaping, planting, seeding, mulching, digging. Bring a friend or come by yourself, we’re excited to have you.

Families with children: Families with children 5 and older will split off and work separately with an Urban Adamah Educator. Come help us care for animals, seed, plant trees, build with cob, design public art pieces and more!

If you would like to join one of our monthly volunteer work parties with a group of 7 people or larger, please contact our Assistant Farm Manager, Carly, at carly(at)urbanadamah.org to confirm availability.

GROUP VOLUNTEER VISITS

We happily host school classes, congregations, alumni associations and other groups at our farm. To learn more about setting up a group visit, please see our Group Programs page, or contact Ariela Ronay-Jinich at ariela(at)urbanadamah.org or 510-649-1595 ext 105.

Like all events here on the farm, we ask that you bring a canned food item for our food bank. In addition to providing fresh produce and eggs to the local community, we also donate hundreds of dry goods to the Alameda Country Food Bank each year. Thanks for supporting this effort.
